Carpet Fibers of Today

There are several different kinds of carpet fiber available to the consumer today.  Some of these fibers include nylon, PET polyester, olefin, polypropylene, wool and acrylic.  Two of the most popular fibers over the past few years have been PET polyester and soft nylons.

PET Polyester is not the polyester of days gone by.  This fiber has natural and permanent stain resistance, better abrasion resistance and is much stronger than the old polyesters.  This fiber is made from PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) chips, which can come from recycled plastic containers, such as pop bottles.

Soft nylons that have been introduced on the market are a very good fiber and have many positive attributes, including being soft and comfortable and exceptionally durable.  However the process to make nylon is a more expensive process and that lends itself to a more expensive product.

These types of fibers are available form all the major carpet manufacturers that Flooring & Design Essentials carries, including Shaw, Richmond, Kraus and Beaulieu.
